I just picked up a radeon 9800 pro on thursday and I seem to be having problems with DVD playback. No matter what player I use or what movie I watch, I get these strange "lines" that flash at the top of the screen. It happens every time the scene changes. I don't quite know how to describe what the lines are.. static..? Dunno. Whatever it is, it's annoying the crap out of me. I have all of my drivers up to date and this problem has been showing up in every single player I try.. I never had this with my ti4600. What could be causing it?

I've always used nvidia's NVDVD before.. but after experiencing problems, I assumed that it might be some kind of conflict between nvdvd and the ati card. I then tried installing powerDVD and got the same results.

Then I tried downloading whatever players I could from download.com but each one reproduced the same problem

I've posted this on four forums.. nobody has been able to figure it out. Could I have possibly picked up a bad card?
Anyone have any idea?

Anyone..?

Format. Always a wise choice when changing video card brands.. some think its extreme but its really not.

I format every 6-8months for maintenance alone.. plus once you get in the groove its not such a pain anymore.. I have one single CDRW that I limit myself to too save my extremely important data on.
Thats the kinney way, but maybe you have a DVDRW or something. Either way, formatting or not.. I'd recommend a good cleaning on any products stuff you are no longer using.

Also, check your connections.. then check for interferences.

The card of course could have issues, but doing any of this stuff couldnt hurt... and is worth doing before imo.
In all honesty I feel it is the card but you should eliminate the "easier" things first than the downtime related with a RMA and then finding out it WAS software..

g'luck
