Question Problems with booting

I recently purchased an Asus desktop and had problems when I tried to turn it on. It originally wouldnt detect my HDD in the bios, then I managed to get it detected and run as the main boot drive. When I do this it gets me to a frozen, black screen with an underscore sitting there. I tried different hard drives and got the same result

It's an I7 with only one 8gb Ram, even though the bios said it has 16.

Did you install the OS (Windows) into the HDD?
