I've been wanting to upgrade my processor to an intel core i5 6600k, but I've run into a major problem. A lot of what I have read says that skylake processors support a max ram voltage of 1.35, but that DDR3 ram runs at a voltage of 1.5. If I were to reuse my DDR3 ram, how long would the CPU last before something went wrong? Thank You!

There is no concrete answer for that. Some people claim it doesn't really hurt anything to run 1.5v DDR3 with Skylake, but the official word is don't do it. I would personally not even buy a DDR3 compatible LGA1151 motherboard.

Okay guys, I would claim the crown for experimental science aiming to break every health-security-mechanism the hardware offers 👑😂
Long story Short: since the beginning of the year I am pushing and tweaking this kind of build to the absolute limit ending here :

Ga Z170 hd3 ddr3
6600k - 4.8ghz@1.52V 24/7stable (prime95 tested) delidded, with oc frame and aircooling noctua NH-D15(no money for 5-10% better performing Customloop😂)

4x4gb 2400mhz@1.71V for 10-11-11-30 Timings instead of 11-11-11-31(normal xmp settings)

RX 470 asus 8gb 24/7 stresstested 8-12hrs a day, not only with gaming, stable at 1370mhz/2300mhz memory with powerlimit increased via bios-mod from 25% to 75%

I was running this config for now nearly 10days 24/7 with nearly 12 hours of gaming sessions and benchmarking. Then it happened! I finally blew up my 1000w psu while I , early on, tried to fix my windows won't shut down ("updating, do not shut down PC" for over 3hrs issue) and after some time won't even boot windows.
Now after endless attempts of fixing anything for nearly 20hours (new psu from retailer, windows corrupted, no repair, not able fresh installing win with multiple bootable devices on multiple drives(hdd&ssd , multiple bios resets and flashes, mounting 2pin bios beepspeaker bullsh*t on normal 4pin socket .....)

I finally figured out that the "no display"(with rx470 and also no display from igpu) issue was caused by one 4gb ddr3 stick from the ripjaws set. This single stick alone is enough to cause "bios siren" (could stand for "low voltage" issues) while I finally was able ti boot into windows (externally prepared drive) with the other 3x4gbs sticks.

So if you're trying the best you can, then you are actually capable of damaging skylake cpus with ddr3 ram(tho the ramstick got the beating 😂)
Mythbusters: CONFIRMED 😂

For science 💪
