Problems with DVI-D to DVI-I

I bought a graphics card (Nvidia GTX 260 Black Edition) that has two DVI-I Dual Link Female ports and a monitor (Acer G236HLBbid) which is DVI-D Dual Link Female port. This monitor also supports VGA and HDMI.

I bought a HDMI to DVI-D Dual Link, unfortunately this didn't work. Then I bought a VGA to DVI-D Dual Link this also didn't work.

I don't know what's wrong, I can't find any DVI-I to DVI-D cables and if I buy a converter they might not work. I saw online that some graphics card don't work with certain cables/converters etc.

All I need is for something that will connect DVI-I to DVI-D both Dual Link and male to fit into the female inputs.

The HDMI to DVI cable should have worked, don't know why not. Its the same digital signal in both standards.
The VGA to DVI-D shouldnt have worked provided you are getting the DVI connector type right, DVI-D just plain doesnt have the pins to support VGA's analogue signal.

DVI-D and DVI-I are innately compatible, the only difference is that DVI-D is missing the four pins for the anologue signal (which your monitor shouldnt need from that connection). The only incompatability would be if your plugging a DVI-I male into a DVI-D female, which is purely a physical thing, if you cut those pins out it would work.

Thanks for the answer I'll give it a go. I was thinking of buying a HDMI to DVI-I converter. Plugging it into the graphics card then using a HDMI to HDMI cable and connect the monitor up to the convertor.
