hey all,

ive been using an e8400 for a good year now, i just recently changed my mobo from an asus p5n-d to a p5q to up my ram to ddr2 1066mhz, and also because the system wouldnt be stable anymore no matter how i oced it, i figured the mobo might be fried...

anyways now with the new p5q setup the computer still freezes even if i dont oc it at all now. ive ran prime95 with a few configs like 3.6ghz oc, but earlier i ran it in stock config at 3ghz and it still frooze my comp completely running prime95. i never went above 4ghz on the e8400 so i didnt thnk i fried the chip, also my temps never go above 55C on full load so not a temp problem ether.

im using corsair pc8500 ram at 5-5-5-15-2 and 1066mghz

could it be that the processor is fried, or do i need to find good settings?

alright its stable with the mem at 800 it ran prime95 all night with the cpu at 3.6ghz, i really want to get the mem stable at 1066 again though, can anyone help me out with some settings for the p5q, or do i need a new mobo?

We're in the same boat. Good luck. 2 months ago, I purchased a P5Q and G. Skill 1066 RAM just to see if DDR2 1066 really improves my 3dMark06, Aquamark scores as well as previous benchmarks Company Heroes, Far Cry, Crysis, all results from my e8400 on a P5N-D.

I just about gave up trying to run the RAM to 1066 without BSODs. The RAM will run fine to 1000 on OC settings 8 X 500 FSB but that's it. I've played with every combination of FSB strap to NB and still no success. The good news is you'll have faster bandwidth anyway without running it to 1066 and just keeping 1:1 FSB RAM ratio. I find that my memory benchmarks were fastest with the e8400 at 9 X 450 than at stock 9 X 333 with the RAM running at 1066.

the 500x8 setting did something to my system, cant get it to boot anymore, always getting a bsod on vista startup now, ahhh im starting to regret gettin this board

alright got it running again, ran windows repair.... disc error
