I hope someone can help me out, this is a cool drive I thought since the moment I saw it, but I have barely burned 3 - 5 CDs and then have thrown over 16 to the trash. I've tried to update everything that needs to be updated for example:
USB - Updated
MyCD - Updated
I tried to download a new software instead of MyCD from HP, but I couldn't install it, it just finishes extracting files from the installer program and it ends without installind anything.

What can I do? have you tried this CDwriter with other software? Nero? Ez CD creator? I need help!!!

The drive is on Nero's compatability list. Give the demo a try. If it works, buy it. I'm not sure if that is the problem or not, but it could be.

***check the jumpers 1st then check em again***

Yeah. I take it that's the 8200e (USB)?

I can still burn rewritables at 2x on mine, but I wouldn't risk a $.40 cdr on it. I've got a Sony USB, which works perfectly at 4x cdr/cdrw.

Overall, that 8200 was just poorly designed. You can return it to HP for no cost, which I have done twice.

Ya win some, and lose some.......
