Hi forum,
I'm new here and I'd like to ask for some help right after saying hi to everybody.
I have an Asus K8V SE Deluxe with an AMD Athlon 64 (that I bought a couple of years ago) and 1Gb of ram PC3200 (kingston DDR 400).
This is the 4th memory stick I change, they seem to go bad after a while with no apparent reason and I'm starting to suspect is the mobo.
I'd like to know if there is any other cases of this or it's just me.
The other thing is that when I open the Bios under memory clock shows 200Mhz (when I guess it should be 400mhz). That is when I use only one ram stick, if I put two of them then the clock goes down to 166Mhz.
Is it normal to show this info and the computer adjust the clock internally to achieve the 400mhz? Or there is in fact something phony with my mobo???
I'll really appreciate any help since I'm going crazy here and I'm starting to distrust this computer but I would not like to have to buy another one if not necessary, this one is doing as much as I need it to do (when it works). But in the other hand I just spent $200 in ram (yes that is what it costs here 1Gb of pc3200) and last night it started to act again.
Any suggestions as what to do???
Should I buy another compatible mobo for what I have?
Is there any twitches that need to be done?
Should I cut my loses, throw everything away and start with a whole new system (hope no!...)?
Please feel free to chip in if you had anything similar happen to you.
Thanks in advance.
Fernando

DDR400 RAM actually runs at 200MHz; since it can transfer data twice per cycle its effective speed is 400MHz. As for why your RAM speed drops to 166MHz (DDR333), are both of your sticks rated at DDR400? If not than that would explain why the RAM speed drops.

You can also manually raise the clock speed back to 200MHz; usually by manually selecting selecting the speed in the BIOS: Under the Advanced section/tab in the BIOS go to CPU Configuration then to Memory Configuration, change the Memclock Mode to Manual and you should get another option letting you change the Memclock to CPU Ratio. Change this to 2:1 (DDR400). Note that this information is also in the manual and available on usa.asus.com

Another option is to try putting the RAM sticks into different slots.

Thanks for your reply, I'll try that, but everything I tried to change in the bios (like the pc performance from auto to turbo) it just make it not boot.
Anyway, I'll try what you suggested and see what happens.
Thanks again
