Problems with my pavilion g6

Hello,
When I boot up the laptop the display screen doesn't show anything. I took out the battery and pressed the power button for 1 min. I done this about 4 times, still nothing. I left the battery out and used the power cord only and it done the same thing, nothing. I can hear the fan working and the hard drive will flash a little. But the screen never comes on. Help!

shine a flash light on the screen and see if you can see the desktop.
try hooking it up to external monitor.
