problems with new gtx970

hi, i'm stuck

just got a zotac gtx 970 and its causing my pc to reboot

pretty sure my psu us 850 watts 800 at least

mother board is a gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3

CPU is amd FX6300

got 8 Gig of ram

apparently the driver is up to date

i have re-installed windows 7 still doing the same thing

at first it would reboot going into a game of advanced warfare

now i cannot even get a system rating from windows without a reboot about 2 seconds into it

any ideas your help is much appreciated

Could be any number of things, but I'd start with the PSU. As you are unsure how many watts it has, I think you should confirm. Find out what make/model it is by looking at the sticker on it. If you're still not sure, post a picture of it and maybe we can help figure it out.

You'll want a PSU of about 500W with 28A on the +12v rail.

Also, just to rule out human error, you do have the power supply connected to the graphics card right?

Hmm. Aside from the possible bottleneck, I can't see what could be causing the issue...

800W is more than enough for a 970. Are all the PCI-E power connectors plugged in and firmly attached?

Check the card and make sure it is firmly seated into the board.

If its not either of those, I'm at a loss.

Another thing thing you might want to try is checking the event logs. Use your integrated video when doing so.

Type 'event view' into Start, click on event viewer or 'view event logs' and check the Windows logs. They will usually provide information on what causes problems, including an unintended reboot.

As jazzy663 stated problem could be anywhere. But start with pulling the card out and as well as ram too, and reseat them as perfectly as possible.

Second thing could be faulty hard disk because I had same issue but my hdd failed for windows and restarts because of it.

did you remove the old drivers ?

Run DDU(display driver uninstaller) in Safe mode and remove the old drivers .Restart and install the new drivers.

Some settings in Registy should be changed at least by reinstallation

now it will not even start a video file in vlc or windows media player

in regards to the connection i used the connections from my gtx560 which are 2 6 pins which appear to be the same i did try with the connection that came in the box but had the same issues

I didn't think about the drivers before, but I think the currently installed driver should work fine with the new card, provided it is fully updated. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all GeForce drivers standardized since the 400 series? The driver used with the 560 should pose no problem with the 970..

Try updating your GeForce driver, if you can. I looked it up, and I believe the latest stable driver is 344.75 WHQL.

In regards to that log from GPU-Z, I have no idea what any of that is.

i have popped the old card back in it seems to be fine

to be sure of driver issues try uninstalling all NVidia drivers and softwares from uninstall programs of control panel and then reinstall it from clean slate. And also try to reinstall directx 9c and 10 they can be corrupted to case visual problems too.

and do this all when new gpu in place.
