After installing a new i7 4770, my computer would boot, but I got no display. I even removed my RAM, and got no post code, so I thought my motherboard was toast, but then why did all my fans spin up? So I put the old i3 4330 back and cleared the cmos, still did the same thing, boot but no display. So I plugged in an old power supply to just the cpu and the motherboard, (with the old CPU,) and it booted! Then I plugged the other power supply back in, and it booted again! So I thought maybe I just hadn't plugged the motherboard power in right, so I swapped the processors again so my new one was in the motherboard, and again, no display. I plugged my old power supply in again, and still nothing. So now I have no idea what could be wrong with it. I've already uninstalled and installed the CPUs at least two or three times, so I don't want to keep doing this.

Solution

I don't think is the motherboard.
It could be the CPU from eBay, is not the first time and it won't be the last that faulty or rebadged CPUs is sold on eBay.
I suggest you inspect the CPU for damage or tampering and if I were you I would request a refund.

Could you post your specs (model included)?

Mobo: Memphis-S, (it's a stock HP motherboard. But I checked the processor upgrade information and the i7 4770 is compatible.)
CPU: a used i7 4770 from eBay.
PSU: Corsair CX500
RAM: is mismatched stock HP ram with "Team Elite+" from my cousin,
The GPU isn't important as it is not plugged in, I'm currently using onboard graphics for troubleshooting, but my GPU is an MSI GTX 1070 Armour

It's definitely not the motherboard. I took off the cooler and started booting the computer without a cooler, just into bios so it wouldn't over heat, and now it definitely works with the old processor, but not the new one.

I have personally upgraded HP Envy desktops with that motherboard from i3s to i7s without a hitch.
