Hello community of "Tom's Hardware".

I have a relative old computer (from 2008). One day, when I press the "on" button it "exploded" with a very loud noise and then it smells like smoke. I have detected the problem: the power supply. When I plug in the mother board's light's on and the power supply make a lot of smoke.

Then I search for a new one, but I'm not entirely sure that just this will resolve the problem. If you know the answer please tell me. Thank you very much for your time.

You need to tell us exactly what you have, the only thing to do is buy a new PSU but there is a good chance other components have been damaged too. If it's a 2008 PC you may be best to look at a new PC instead of putting money in such an old PC

What happened with you makes me sad because I don't know just how bad it was. If your PSU went RIP in pepperoni then it's most likely that some other parts of your computer went RIP as well. You'll have to check that. At that point, even if not many things are damaged, your computer is pretty old (mine is as well) and I'd invest on a budget PC with recent parts (2013-2015)! I said budget pc because I don't know how much you can afford alright? But if you have the money go for something better of course, if you need any help with it let me know!
