I'm using a PC running windows 8 pro, and it has been perfect till today when I had a problem with it and when I tried to contact MS support they wold say "Please contact the call center as we are not technically trained".

The thing is it's the weekend where I live and I need a quick solution, so here's a brief of what happened:
>PC perfectly fine yesterday

>turn it off, no updates or anything

>turn on today

>stuck at the login screen saying "Preparing windows" for like 8 minutes

>logs in

>fresh windows copy

>lost everything on my C drive that's windows related including photos, downloads, documents and most importantly, GAME SAVES

>goes into windows settings

>sync settings

>"you are currently logged in to a temporary account"

>control panel says I'm the admin

>log out and log in

>nothing has changed

>lost all my windows 8 apps (not that I used them but still)

>lost all my quick launch apps Screenies:

Solution
Alright, don't panic.

Most likely, there was a problem with your user account and Windows 8 created a temporary user account.

Go to: C:\Users\[Your Username]\
All of your stuff should be in there.

I would open a command prompt as an administrator (Windows key + X key).
Type: sfc /scannow
Let the scan complete.

Follow the steps in this article: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-system/windows-8-keeps-loading-with-temporary-profile/583abee6-645d-42a1-88da-063547c6eea0

Once your user account is repaired everything should be back to the way it was.

Wow thanks mate, I did find everything and I'm scanning atm.
I love this website and it's people!

Depends on what you need.
I have been using 8 since April 2013 now and it is faster than 7 gaming wise and boot wise though the gaming difference is negligible the boot times are worth it.

On the other hand it has some minor stability issues that 7 doesn't have.

So it's up to you in my opinion.

My only concern is gaming performance...is it really better than windows 7?

Well here's the thing, my old PC was terrible and it had about 5 FPS difference, my current PC is good and most games are already locked at 60 FPS so I don't really know if it was my old PC's fault or was it windows.
I would suggest windows 8 for higher future compatibility though, also the fact that it uses your MS account helps keep stuff synced.
