My specs:
Opteron 140
ASUS SK8V Mobo (940 socket)
1GIG Corsair XMS Registered RAM
BFG Geforce FX 6800 OC
So I'm trying to figure out how to improve my performance on my gaming system with Star Wars Galaxies...which is equally dependant on GPU, CPU, and RAM...🙁
Upgraded my Vid card from a Geforce FX5600 256 to a BFG Geforce 6800 OC, and I'm getting 8500 on 3Dmark, but the game doesnt seem to be improving much. My frame rate is still 8-15FPS, and jumps wildly, goes down in crowded cities etc...
So I ordered an Opteron 148 chip to see if that makes any improvement, but would like to know if I will need to reformatt my OS or anything serious. Ideally, I'd just like to swap out the CPU's to check for an improvement, and if I don't see one, swap the Opteron 140 back in and return the 148...
So can I just swap the CPU's without doing anything else? Just pull one out and plop in the new one and restart? Tell me its that simple 😛
