Question Procedure to transfer winxp from laptop to a tower build Asus MB

Would like to transfer all files from Compaq laptop to Asus MB, 2gb ram, 250mb hard drive. Winxp install disk not recognized on asus M3a78-em, dos disk will boot from cd-, but not xp installation disk. any ideas?

A straight up clone from a Compaq laptop to a desktop PC is unlikely to work.
And unless that is a retail XP license you purchased in the laptop, it will become unactivated upon seeing new hardware, and be unusable after 30 days.

Obtain and try a different XP DVD or USB to boot from?

OK so no clone, I have a genuine XP disk with ser/#s, worked fine with last 2 installs,but not on the Asus, is it a Bios setting that might be wrong?

If it boots from a different CD or DVD, its not a BIOS setting.

Just to verify the boot operation from a DVD, try a Linux LiveCD.
