Processor die question

This is more of a silly question but I'm curious. Why are processor die(s?) Shiny and pearlescent?

It refers to the actual processor silicon inside the package.

The circuits on the die are etched at nanometer scales. To make anything at that scale the material must be exceptionally smooth. To the naked eye it's so smooth it looks shiny because light reflects from it very well.
