Question Processor failure?

I have a 3 year old desktop with Gigabyte z390 board and Ami bios, giving 5 beeps on power up. Reset the bios, removed memory, removed graphics card and still 5 beeps which indicates cpu. Will try resetting the cpu but if that doesn’t fix how can I be sure it’s the cpu?

Try a new power supply. If the CPU isn't getting proper power from the supply it won't work. CPU's rarely, if ever, fail. I've only seen one in 40 years and it had been abused.

Thanks that’s my experience, is checking the voltage out of the power supply a good indicator in the absence of a new power supply?

Simply checking voltage is not an indication of a good supply. A power supply under no load conditions will produce perfect voltage all day long. And, you can't rely on the BIOS display either. You need either a proper load te$ter or another power supply.

For the record if this helps anyone in future…

The problem was nothing to do with the processor, power supply or motherboard it turned out to be one of the DDR4 sticks, booted up perfectly when the faulty stick was taken out.
Just shows how misleading the beep codes are!
