I am trying to build a computer that is good for gaming/editing high quality. Which would be the best processor to get? I was thinking Intel I7-4790k, but am seeing alot of the AMD RHYZENs for editing builds. Which brand is better, and which should I buy?

As Dugimodo suggests it depends on your "use case scenario". It's a bit of a cop out answer on my part but also true. Depending on how you use your PC, weigh up the importance of the software you use and match to your budget and the component choice.

The Ryzen r7s are generally seen as very competitive content creation processors which can match the Intel i7s in most cases. The r7s are seen as disappointing for gaming by comparison though (but not bad) because the performance it shows in content creation doesn't translate to gaming performance.

The Ryzen r5s seem to be thought as a better choice (from many reviews I've seen) than the Intel i5s due to having more threads. Acceptable gaming performance with the Ryzen r5s and additional...
You risk getting a lot of opinion based answers for a question like that, what is better depends entirely on the software you run. The new Ryzen 5 6 core CPU seems like a better all round CPU for general purpose but still is not as good for anything using 4 or less threads. Make a list of the software you will use the most often and then look up some benchmarks if you want the best CPU for your personal situation.

Also why 4790K? it's still a very good CPU but a 7700K is a better choice in my opinion, not so much for any minor performance difference but because of the newer motherboard and chipset that comes with it.

The general consensus so far is the intel CPUs are better for current games and the Ryzens are better for a general workstation use. There is speculation that the gaming difference will dissappear as developers utilise the Ryzen better but for now there's no way to know for sure how true that will turn out to be.

Truthfully I don't think you'll have any issues either way, pick one and run with it.

For a pure editing build I think I would lean towards an Ryzen r7 build because of the potential price of a top of the range Broadwell-E build. At the very least, Ryzen has shown itself to be fine for content creation unlike the gaming side which still needs more developer input which could still take time.
