processor Intel or AMD

I want to purchase desktop I am software engineering student. Which is better processor AMD 8 CORE BLACK or INTEL I7 I also used to play games.
Please suggest.

Which softwares ? Do you have a budget ?
Ideally the i7 is the best for gaming and heavily threaded works, but consedering your budget, an FX 8350 can allows you to get a better GPU

Both reasonable choices as you will likely run multiple VMs when working on software these days.

Intel chip is a quad core with hyperthreading (4 cores, 8 threads)

AMD chip has 8 physical cores, but each pair shares a single ALU. (In effect the first 4 cores have full run of the available resources, instant a 5th core is needed they start scheduling jobs so there is a little slow down)

Personally I would recommend an LGA1150 Xeon (Haswell) chip which will do a little better at work oriented tasks and do gaming just as fast.

Are you talking about purchasing a pre-built machine, or building your own?
