[SOLVED] Processor name change

I recently purchased an i7 9700k from eBuyer, I planned on installing it myself but due to lack of time I decided to take it to my local computer shop. I received my computer back and re-installed everything lost during the change-over, and when I look at my processor name on "my computer" it states the processor is a 9700k, but on speccy it says its an i7 7700 running on Kaby Lake when the i7 9700k runs on coffee lake? Im not sure if he has installed a different processor and taken mine for profit... Any ideas? thanks!

Make sure you are running the most recent version of Speccy and CPU-Z to make sure they identify the CPU properly.

What motherboard do you have? Seeing as those 2 CPU’s won’t run on the same motherboard it will be easy to tell.

Also, was more than the CPU changed? This statement is unusual as a CPU swap should not have caused this condition, "I received my computer back and re-installed everything lost during the change-over".

Yeah, I had an i7-4790k before so it had a different socket, so I had a new motherboard, CPU and RAM.

What motherboard do you have? Seeing as those 2 CPU’s won’t run on the same motherboard it will be easy to tell.

MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS 1151 DDR4 ATX Motherboard is the motherboard I bought.

As stated earlier, make sure both Speccy and CPU-Z are the latest versions.

I just downloaded CPU-Z and it came up saying it's an i7 9700k... my speccy should be the newest version as I literally downloaded it 15 minutes ago, but I'll try that too!

Yeah it says it's the Z390... just strange how speccy recognises it as something else! Thanks for your help, panic over
