Hi, I'm a new user so any reply will be much appreciated! I recently bought an intel i5 3210M processor for my Asus K55A laptop, after checking its compatibility with my laptop (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/358941-28-processor-asus-k55a-laptop) I replaced the old intel processor with this. No problems until I tried to turn the laptop on after finishing the installation. The power button lit up but nothing else, the screen remained blank and it didn't sound like the hard drive or anything else was running? The laptop also refused to turn off. I have a feeling the new processor isn't working properly but I'm not sure if/ how I could fix this? Thanks :)

Solution
ok at this point I'm going to assume that you have don't have problems disassembling a laptop.

first is to re-attach your old cpu, so that we can identify if you bought a bad cpu.

next is to check the thermal pads on the heatsink if they are still properly placed and reapply thermal compound on the cpu itself.

next is to check the ram stick, if you have 2 then remove one for stability test then vice versa.

next is to check the inverter circuit that powers the board, either by a voltmeter or just looking closely to see any burnt marks.
first question is how you manage to open your laptop? any guides that used or are you just familiar with disassembling a laptop? because we may need to back track your progress to see if a connector might have been neglected to be re-attached.

Check whether the batter and laptop charging adapter are fine...remove the battery and connect the laptop directly to power and try...if thats not working i think theres issue with incoming power supply.

I already reassembled the laptop twice now just to check that all the cables have been re-attached and I've tried to boot with/without the battery using charging supply with no success?

Just got it working with the new CPU! Followed your steps and realised after checking the heat sink, and removing a ram, the laptop finally booted. I think it may have been that the screw for aligning the CPU pins had to be tightened beyond the original point. Thanks very much for the help!!
