Which one should i get? decided on the AMD XP 3200+ last week, but then abandoned the idea. Now looking into the newer ones... Recommendations?

1) AMD A64 3000+
2) Intel P4 3.0E
3) Intel P4 3.0C
4) Intel P4 530 3.0Ghz (LGA 775)

Thanks alot.

Depends, really.. planin for the future, get the AMD 64. Presscots no-go at the time. you'll might get a 3rd degree burn from touchi them. Northwood are better overall performers when overclocked. Plus they stay around 45-50 degrees with the retail heatsink. amd 64 rule gaming. The p4 530 is only for people who want PCI-Express. It's pretty much a presscott with PCI-Express. Those PCI-Express graphics are scarce anyway. DDR2 is kinda pointless, if you have low latency DDR PC3200 ram.

Go with AMD. best bet. it should last several of years before becomin obsolete if you throw in a gig 'o ram and a 9800 Pro, or 9600XT if your on a tight budget...

Yeah, but I do multimedia applications for my friends, intel is best for that. 😛

If you want a high end gaming rig, you should wait until fall. All the juicy things like the FSB1066 for the P4 720 are coming out then. Combine it with an Geforce 6800 ultra extreme and you have an extremely good gaming rig (Pun intended). It will also be pretty future proof. If the p4 720 is based off the dothan (or Banias) core, AMD-like 64 bit, not to mention the 1066 fsb, and L2 2mb cache, it should perform WAY above the designated clockspeed expectations. I'm gonna wait till it comes out.

The A64 is your best bet.
It is wise to forget the presscotts because of heat issues. The lga socket is too new and too questionable to be a good choice. That leaves only the P4c and the A64. They are pretty close, right now, with the A64 winning in gaming, the P4c winning in encoding.
The reviews I've seen on 64 bit, says that the A64 will win at encoding, once 64 bit is active. So, you get a great gaming chip now, with 64 bit potential.

LOL, 3.06E, I'd love to meet your math teacher!
