Professional/Industry Grade Printers

Hey All,

My business is looking to buy a professional printer to take care of all our printing needs. Until this point, we have used different printing companies to create our brochures/pamphlets that we distribute to our clients. We have a Marketing/Art department, and so we want to look at the option of bringing everything in-house.

Do you guys have any recommendations as to what type of machines we would need? The last brochure we created was printed on:

Paper Size:
A3

Paper:
Matte – 14pt Finch/
Glossy – 130 lb gloss cover

Finishing:
Score and fold

If we decided we wanted to recreate a brochure like this with a printer we purchased, which would it be?

There is no "set-budget", so please let me know what you guys think. Thanks!!

colour or black printing?

if both, suggest Xerox phaser colour. These printers use, ink sticks...aka solid ink blocks. which do produce a very nice colour, since the print from the ink sits on the paper. Its an exaggerated inkjet, but instead of using liquid ink, you are using a crayon. which melts onto the paper, not into. Therefore, your print will jump out at you.
you are using cardstock, so suggest looking for printer that will be comfortable with stiff paper.

When using cardstock, look for a printer that has exit tray opening at the rear, aka straight through paper path, otherwise you will develop problems, in the mechanism if the cardstock has to be angled up through the regular output tray.

We are technicians, been there, done that.

suggest: Xerox, Xante, higher end printers. The only other expense, besides the toner, drum unit, will be the transfer belt (changed frequently IF you produce a LOT of colour.)
