I'm having an issue with my Asus 970 pro gaming Mobo. I have 2 custom profiles on it, one is for when I OC my CPU (AMD Phenom II 1100T) and one for for stock settings.

The issue I am having is that when I try to switch profiles from OC to Stock it hangs and I have to force my computer off then turn it back on, then it tells me that the OC'ing has failed and go into the set up to change things. Well the thing is all the setings are set to my normal profile, nothing to change and when I exit w/o saving it boots up normally, or when I use Alt+Ctrl+Del command on the OC failed screen it boots up normally. This only happens when I go from OC to normal, but not from normal to OC profile.

My BIOS is Revision 501. I know there is a 601 and a 701 bios update, but I"m not sure if they are worth the updating and if they would help or not, and if I would lose my profile that I spent hours on tweaking to get a decent OC on that old CPU.

Definitely update your BIOS to the latest version, the updates often contain fixes for stability issues. You also may need to dial back your overclock a little bit too. Also check if there is an update to the overclocking utility you're using.

ok, I updated the Bios to 701. had to redo my OC profiles. and it still has issues going from OC to Stock profile. Same issue as before would hang on going to stock profile, force shut off my pc and then boot up into an OC Failed screen.

OC Profile:
AMD Phenom II 1100T 3.3Ghz (OC'ed to 3.9GHz at ~1.46v) and turbo turned off.
Corsair Vengance 4x4GB running at OC'ed 1600MHz.

Stock profile:
stock cpu speed of 3.3Ghz with turbo boost on
Ram running at 1333 (which is under clocked I believe)

So I'm not sure what is going on. As for the OC utility I'm using the BIOS.

OK, so you're setting up the OC profiles in BIOS. But what software utility are you using to switch between the profiles when Windows is running? Do you suffer the same problem if you don't switch profiles while Windows is running and instead switch profiles by restarting the system and going back into BIOS to switch profiles?

You could also try setting up a 3'rd 'medium OC' profile and see if you still have a problem switching between 'stock' and 'medium OC' using whatever software utility you're using while Windows is running.

I'm not using any utility in WIndows to switch OC profiles. when I swap profiles I reboot my computer go into the bios and swap there. it then hangs when going back to the stock profile.

I misunderstood, I thought you were switching profiles on the fly.... my bad. Why don't you try this -- setup two other OC profiles, one with just a CPU OC (stock RAM) and another with just a RAM OC (stock CPU) to try and isolate which system component is causing the problem.

You might also try shutting the PC down after switching from OC to stock profile. You'll probably have to turn off the PSU at the back switch after changing BIOS profiles and saving settings since BIOS rarely has an option to shutdown from within the BIOS. My guess is you won't see the problem doing a cold boot after changing profiles.I know it's not a real solution to your problem, but that and trying the different OC profiles above will help you understand the problem a little better.

ok, since your answer, I have created a Ram only OC, and a mid-range OC 3.6GHz (doesn't even get to the turbo boost speed). and so far the only booting issue I have is from the 3.9 OC to stock and I don't know why.

and newb question, what in windows utility can I get to OC in windows on the fly?

ASUS Dual Intelligent Processors is one of the utilities in ASUS AI Suite that allows you to overclock on the fly. You can download from Asus below (verify that's actually your MB): Look under Utilities after choosing your version of Windows.

as for the dual intelligent processors utility, the auto optimizer didn't go so well, it rebooted my system but it just hanged, no post, my computer was on but no posting and had to use the clear bios jumper to get my system to post again... did I get a bad mobo?

well I've got a partial solution to my issue. I'll just run my BIOS with the OC profile and then use the Dual intelligent processor utility program to return my computer to Stock on the fly and then can return to the OC settings.

however I can't boot up as stock clock and then go to the OC profile as it blue screens my computer. and they are the exact same settings (as far as I can tell) as the bios OC profile.
