Programming on a Server

Hello,
I am going into computer science course where I will be working on embedded chip software, primarily the course focuses on creating embedded chip software.

So I was compelled to ask the question, would a server type processor such as the Xenon V2 for the Ivy bridge be worth picking up.

Or should I move up to the 2011 socket, or should I just put a 8350 in my AM3+ socket

It won't matter that much. If you already have an AM3+ motherboard, then an 8350 is a great processor.
