I have built up a pc and I got both an ssd and hdd. The problem is that, even though after downloading any program, i make it download on the hdd, only the setup file goes there, and everything else goes on the ssd. (That doesnt happen when installers makes you set where you want the program to be installed.)

That's normal, program itself has to be written so place to install it is on another disk/partition. Even in that case, most programs will install a part of it in C: (OS disk). Installation file could be anywhere, CD/DVD, USB, other disk/partition but will install where it's programmed to install.

Lol. no, unless you reprogram the program.
Only portable programs can install in same folder they are but that's not real installation, more like just unzip.

as someone who knows a lot about installing things and writing installers, I wish we could just go back to unzipping... lol

all of my installers allow customers to specify what drive and directory they want. but some of their dependencies get installed on the system drive

there is a way, when you are initially installing windows to make it use a different drive for Program Files, but it must be done beforehand and most users will never figure out how to do it.

if you try to modify it after the fact, then you are stuck because you will most likely break windows or updates of programs

not mine, good sir.... not mine. mine are TIGHT, TIGHT TIGHT like Tuco says from Breaking Bad. I am the Walter White of installers (MSI, Install Script, Wix#, whatever).

that being said, when you have to make all your products work together, you do need to leave some stuff that is shared and such, but yes, proper cleanup is a must. too many n00bs
