[SOLVED] Programs loading slow

When I open Lightroom, Photoshop or any Topazlabs image processing software, the splash screen appears quickly but then nothing visibly happens for up to 30 seconds.

My hard drives have plenty of space and two are SSDs used for these program files and their data. Would upgrading from 16Gb to 32Gb RAM help?

My system is pretty fast and reasonably well specced. See the Speccy report

I will confess I forced Win 11 to install as technically I need a plugin TPM module and mine is v1 and not v2.2 but that is not likely to be the issue surely?

how much ram do the programs use once loaded? I don't know if more ram will speed up the load speed.
is CPU at 100% load during the process?
what shows on task manager during the loading of the programs?

4790k is from 2014, its not exactly new anymore.

have you run these before on same PC on win 10? just wondering if it is any different?

Unless you're running out of RAM and the drives are seeing constant activity due to swapping, adding more won't help.

Also if the application has to load in a bunch of other things, this adds to the loading time. Games that I've modded extensively still need a good 20 seconds or so from my NVMe SSD to fully load.

On my previous system, Win 10, 4790k, 32GB RAM....Lightroom opened pretty quickly.
On my current system, Win 11, Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB RAM...Lightroom opens in about 5 sec.

Ignoring the TPM issue, why Win 11 on that unsupported CPU?

Looking at Task Manager when calling Topaz from Lightroom, I noted the Status reported 'suspended' for much of the time. No excessive RAM or disk usage noted.

As for why I forced Win 11 on an unsupported CPU, well, I am an early adopter. The CPU is pretty much the best that this mobo can support so any upgrade would be expensive - new CPU & Mobo. Now I've used Win 11 for a year, I'd hate to return to Win 10

did you get windows 11 through the insider program as an early tester.

"Power" is only useful to look at if you're on battery and you're trying to conserve battery life, so you know which apps need to be closed.

Outside of that, 85% memory usage is creeping up to being full. And if this is just when the program loaded, then it will get worse when you use it. So more memory can help in this case.

Ha! Yes it just feels like a year! I got Win 11 from the official MS site before it was released to the public. Not as an Insider since I was not allowed due to the TPM issue. I fiddled the registry during installation to trick Win 11 into installing. It is only a technicality AFAIK that my CPU isn't supported. A case of MS CYA and it all runs hunky-dory so far apart from this issue. At some point, MS may stop offering me certain upgrades but so far I get all updates O.

It looks like a RAM upgrade to 32Gb is in order. And I'll start saving my pension for a new mobo/cpu combo asap!

Either more RAM, or that off the chart CPU is the issue.

However, I've run Lightroom with an i5-3570k and 16GB RAM no problem.
It never took 30 secs to open up.

Possibly if you have a lot of plugins, that sit on a slow HDD...
