Not sure if this is the right category, this is a bit of a tricky one so it doesn't really fall into any single section.
I have been exploring using my new Samsung galaxy S4 advance as a extra screen/touch interface for my pc. Basically what I am trying to do is mirror what is being displayed on my pc screens ( I have 3) to my smartphone, so the videos, web pages etc on my pc can be accessed via the phone when i leave the room, while also having the phone double as a touch screen interface. I have had success in both areas so far using programs like splash top (although this only projected one screen to my phone) and VNC/Tight VNC (which worked great just video stream was very slow) over a local network. But just for shits and giggles id like to be able to achieve this while im connected to say, the WIFI at my work, or using mobile data.
Now I would stick with just tight VNC as it does the very basics of what i want to achieve, but I have a few questions before i settle on a single app/program.
First and most importantly. Is there a similar program to VNC that allows for remote access from a NON local network (IE my work WIFI)? I hear plenty of scare stories about hackers remote controlling pcs with trojans so I assume its technically possible.
Number two. Same question but instead of being connected via WIFI being connected via Mobile Data (aka data traffic, satellite data what ever its called around the world)? I've tried a few remote access apps for phones of various types and none of these seem to support mobile data connection (or non local connections for that matter)
Lastly, Is it realistic to ask to be able to mirror a pc screen displaying a movie/video game to a cellphone or is this sort of crossing the limit of what can be achieved with current consumer tech?
Sorry for the long question, this has been a project of mine for a while.
