Hello all and thanks for your patience with my hardware novice-ness.

I purchased a retail Athlon64 3200+. I ordered the "venice" type according to many recommendations on this forum. I received the package today and just wondering if there is any way to determine if it is actually a "venice" core and not a "winchester" before i open the box. im a naturally suspicious person and just want to be sure before i install it. is there a serial number or anything that would distinguish it as a venice core?

Thanks in advance

Take a look at the markings on the chip and see if looks sometihng like this. Note especially if the first line ends with BP.
