Proper SpeedFan configuration

Hi, everyone,

I've been on a quest to achieve optimal PC cooling. My mobo is a Maximus IX Formula, and after properly connecting all the fans to what I consider to be the ideal setup, I realized that Asus' software (AI Suite/Fan Xpert) simply wasn't gonna cut it (jarring jumps in fan speeds even when setting fan curves at the BIOS level; also, no way to set fans to GPU temps).

So I looked into SpeedFan. This guide has been really helpful, but I still have some questions. First, here's my cooling setup:

  • Case: NZXT S340 Elite;
    CPU: i7-7700K + Corsair H110i w/ 2x Noctua NF-A14 in push, at the front;
    GPU: EVGA 1080 Ti SC2 Hybrid w/ 1x Noctua NF-F12 in pull + 1x Corsair ML120 in push, at the back;
    Exhaust: 1x Corsair ML140 at the top.

Here's how everything's connected to the mobo (headers):

  • CPU_FAN - NF-A14
    CPU_OPT - NF-A14
    CHA_FAN2 - ML140
    CHA_FAN3 - ML120
    AIO_PUMP - H110i*
    H_AMP - NF-F12

*The H110i has a non-variable pump, so I plugged its 3-pin cable into one of the two non-PWM controlled headers. That way, the pump should always run at full speed.

I already identified all fans on SpeedFan. They're CPU (both NF-A14s, since the CPU_OPT header mirrors CPU_FAN), Aux (ML140), Aux1 (ML120) and Aux3 (NF-F12).

There's still Sys and Aux2, which were at 0 and 100%, respectively, when I first started SpeedFan, with no way to change those values (even after configuring all PWM modes to manual, as per the guide).

I assumed that Sys was the H110i's pump speed, so I set that to 100% as both minimum and maximum values, even though the pump is already connected to a non-PWM header, as mentioned.

I have no idea what Aux2 refers to. I can't tell if it's the GPU's AIO or the hybrid card's fan (which cools the VRMs and even with the values at 100%, isn't spinning when idling).

Another question: when selecting which fans to respond to each temperature, the guide shows changes being made only to Core 0/CPU, with Core 1 left unchanged. I have Sys, CPU and Cores 0, 1, 2 and 3 listed. Sys is already set to 100% regardless. I selected CPU fan for the rest, assuming I have to do it for each core, besides the CPU label itself. Is that the right way to do it?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
