Proposed build for video editing/rendering

I use Womble DVD video editor and Sony Vegas to edit videos. Mostly building a audio and video library for a home media server. My current machine will handle working on most video which can be SD or HD, but, when I have to render it, it can take a lifetime (start a 1-2 hr HD video renders in 12 plus hours? :( ) If I don't like the results I'm back to square one? No thanks.

So, I'm considering building a new system that has the horsepower to get the job done. From reading around, it sounds like an i7 processor is the best for this, but, the AMD processor can get the job done and leave me a little change in my pocket.

I left off the video card for now because the on board video should be able to handle my needs (I think) plus save me some money. I haven't done in gaming in years, but would like to, so I may add a video card in the future.

Opinions in any direction are appreciated. Some these prices represent combo deals. I cut out the excess verbiage for readability.

Honestly, I don't know how Tylerthedruid can get more replies than either of our requests, though a message title like, "Granpa destroyed my old computer and is convinced he fixed it" certainly helps, I'm giving you a bump in the hopes that you, or I, will get some good advice.

My advice for Tylerthedruid is, "Put granpa in a home... a nice home mind you, but definitely some place where WD40 is not within easy reach."

I'm hoping this machine will have a pretty good lifespan and perform well for several years with some minor upgrades if needed.

Based on my research to date, I am thinking the GPU is not critical for what I'm doing right now unless I get into gaming...and I think I'll be able to do that with just a few enhancements (such as GPU). If I'm following the specs right, I could get a nice HD TV/monitor if I wanted to do that for big screen gaming :) This board has HDMI and DVI on it.

I found Patriot memory that has similar specs, but a few dollars cheaper. Main difference appears to be 1.65 V versus 1.5 V. If I'm getting it, this is more critical for overclocking than run the system stock? I may do some OCing at some point, but, if it performs well for me, I really don't want to push the system initially.
