Hey guys, i want to upgrade to an rx 480 now and get one in the future for crossfire when it starts slacking. Cause budget constrictions right now. What are the pros and cons for crossfire? Im getting an i5-6600k now so that wont be a problem.
Basically there is an inherent latency within the system bus where games running in crossfire will have this tiny almost imperceptible stutter. It won't affect fps but it is visible.
So i guess ill just get a 1060 and sell that when i have enough money for a 1070. Thanks dude!
The RX 480 isn't a bad card and that problem is inherent to SLI too.
But yes buying an RX 480 and then later upgrading to a 1070 or 1080 or whatever AMD comes out with is a better choice for higher performance.
The main (and only) pro is that you can nearly double your performance in many games with a fairly cheap upgrade.
The cons are heat, power, micro stutter, and not all games support it. To be honest when it starts slacking you may well want to just buy a newer faster card. I have an RX 480 it is great. It replaced a setup of Crossfire R9 280's which was actually faster, but the RX 480 does it better.
