Hello,
Here is the question followed by info on what happened.

Will a bios boot if the PS/2 port is unsoldered and removed? and will a usb keyboard be reconized by factory default settings for cmos/bios ?
I had a computer that fell the only cables still pluged into it were the sound, mouse (USB), and keyboard. Out of all of them the only one that was to short and pulled on the connection was the keyboard (PS/2).

After this fall the system was booted up and windows didnt allow keyboard imput. The keyboard cable was pushed back in (the PS/2 port was ajusted some since the fall pulled on it) then the system rebooted. The bios startup screen showed as normal and then the screen went black, monitor saying no signal.

Some times depending on how the keyboard connector is wiggled before booting the bios screen will show for a split sec then no signal again, 98% of the time nothing just a black screen, a few times the system would beep repeatedly for a sec then just sit there no signal on monitor still.

So im thinking of removing the PS/2 port to see if this lets the system boot up

Well, you could remove it to eliminate bad or crossed connections. Any system should boot at least to POST without the keyboard, whereupon you might get an error "Keyboard error or no keyboard present" that stops it from going any farther.

Some boards are programed to accept USB keyboards by default, others are not.

Most boards will allow the use of USB keyboards by default. If you disabled that, which I use to do 😀, then you will have to clear your BIOS. Of course if you have an older board that has USB keyboard off by default and won't accept it on the POST screen, you're SOL

If you are able to unsolder the PS/2 port why not just solder another one in?
You can get a new one from most electronic part suppliers (like Digikey) if you dont have an old motherboard with a good one on it.

If the PS/2 port is undamaged but not working, sometimes there is a surface mount fuse nearby on the motherboard that may have blown esp if you spilled somethinginto the keyboard.

And to confirm the answer to your question, yes the computer will boot to at least the keyboard detection, depending on how the bios is set which would typically be : halt on all errors, halt on all but keyboard, or do not halt.

Wow thanks for the fast replys.

Some new info, I seen the hard drive led acting like it was booting into windows on some reboots so I pluged in my headphones and can hear it boot to windows depending again on how i wiggle the ps/2 port, also some wiggles (I need a better word to use then wiggle) the keyboard would work.

STILL no video. So I am going to find someone that can plug my graphics gard into there system to see if it is working, also still looking for someone that has soldered things before (I have played with doing that as a kid but dont want to do it on my main system)

So again thanks for the info and I will post info on if the board itself is damaged or if I had bad luck and damaged both the ps/2 port AND the video card.
