I turn on my PS2 after a installed a Maxtor HDD from 1999 (lol) and the AV cord doesn't show any video and doesn't send any audio. I would like help and I dont want to purchase a new one.

Interesting.

Was not sure about what you meant by "move protector". Do not follow that a magnet can become stronger over time and cause a another component to fail. I would expect sort of the opposite: something like a spring to assist with opening that weakens and can no longer overcome the magnet.

Needing more insight to it all I went online via google and found this video:

Over 8 minutes long but stay with it. The problem found and fixed by the poster may have been due to an improper assembly as he mentions. Could also be caused by a fall or strong bump as I viewed it. The pin he put back into place may have worn down a bit and has more leeway to pop out of the grove it...
Actually your terminology is confusing me a bit. Can you be a more specific and add some details?

Are you talking about the Maxtor HDD or some AV cord/cable?

Otherwise:

First confirm that the AV cord is applicable and appropriate for your requirement.

If not, return it as the "wrong cord" and get the correct cord.

If so, return the cord as "not working".

That said, how do you know that the Max HDD fro 1990 is working and/or workable in your PS2?

Need to narrow down the problem device and situations.

Hello. In fact, the AV cable wasn't in the socket fully. But now I have a different problem with my PS2. The disk tray doesn't open. I now have to open it to put in a disk?

How old is the PS2 and is it in generally good condition?

Do you hear the tray trying to open? If the "open" command is not being processed that is one thing. However, if the tray is trying to open there may be an internal problem preventing opening via that process....

How do you open the tray - manually push a button or use a paper clip to open the tray or something else along those lines?

Would consider a possible bug in the software but if it worked before then that is probably excludable. However, if there are any updates available then try the applicable update.

Hi. I hear the disk tray trying to open, but it gets halfway until it gets stuck. I know the part that is causing the issue. The disk move protector with a magnet in it. The magnet is too strong so the tray can't open. The PS2 is 15 years old.
It is in good condition, but there is a plastic separation on the back when it fell off a desk.

Anyway - there are other similar videos out there - maybe you have already viewed a couple. If not, do so and maybe one of those videos will directly address the "move protector".

Hopefully the video(s) will help - just be careful and meticulous if you take your PS2 apart.
