Saved data corruption problem background. I have done the usual steps to try and fix.

Let me start here.

I have a new PS3 game 'The Last of Us'. Since playing it after getting deep into the game I've had bugs. No voices audible. Next fix result: no music but a lot of footsteps and SFX. Issues that have caused me lost time and brought a truly incredible package as powerful as any movie I've seen leaving me feeling disappointed and depressed for a couple days because of my emotional involvement.

I think I may have caused the problems by trying to work around a 10-game save limit that was meant to keep you from restarting at a checkpoint over and over again to try to do better in the game. But that's just a guess.

Okay. Here is where I need some help from the audience. I think a 120GB-160GB ext hdd should be adequate for all my saved files from many, many games and apps. The games I can DL again from PS+. I plan on using the ext hdd for a backup and restore process for doing a clean install. I'm deleting all data I don't think I'll need again. Like 400 saves from all the Bioshock games from a couple of playthroughs for example. Jeesh.

I think I can go out and buy what I just asked about but I'm leary that I'll end up with a poor quality hdd. Would I need any other hardware? I have not done this before; first time for everything. Is it possible to get a reliable ext hdd under $75? Can I do a backup and restore with only a replacement sata hdd for the PS3? Those prices look very good.

With digital game distribution-only coming, I want to keep my PS3 and its discs saved in storage one day. Not to mention my PS4. Digital only games we may never truly own again. >:-/

So, what should I look towards? The ext hdd I mean, not a gamer's shrink. I can always put that off another day :) Your help is truly appreciated! Thx for reading a long post. I wasn't sure how much background info to tell so thanks for hanging in there. Cheers.

Hawk22,
Yeah I remember now that NTFS is a Microsoft developed format. Sony support didn't really have much to tell me that I did not already try regarding my problems and said they had never heard of TLOU game causing bugs/glitch save issues. Total BS. Playstation.com forum searches didn't help except for hdd swap. I'll search Amazon threads.
