Hello, my brand new PS3 slim 320GB is doing weird noises while playing games, I only tested it with Uncharted and Brink but it does those noises on both.
It's probably nothing but then I asked from my friends who all have PS3's and they said they don't know that noise.
Let me demonstrate it with a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN_bEeyBfVs&feature=youtu.be

Note: this doesn't happen with downloaded games, only with disc games.

Mrrmh >.<. Damn it, I guess I have to then. How can I keep my saved games, trophys, friends etc.? Wouldn't want to lose all of those.

On the other hand, many people claim (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WS9uwLSRE1I&feature=related) that it's a completely normal noise. I'm kind of confused right now.

I sounds like a seek issue with the laser head, I have the same 320gb slim and it doesn't make all those whirring noises while playing uncharted (don't have brink), if its comming up with disc read errors or freezing up just get warranty to sort it out.

Well, it does that noise pretty often, sometimes it lasts only for a few seconds and sometimes 10+ seconds. The gameplay is running fine and doesn't show any errors.

It's spinning up and spinning down quite often which doesn't sound too healthy, it might be worth trying a bluray film or if you have GT5, MGS4, LA Noir or Heavy Rain and doing a game install to see if it does the same noise, those games have big installs and I know they don't whirr up and down as in your youtube video.

I can lend GT5 from a friend of mine, but I'll have to do it tomorrow. If it stills does that whirring up and down sounds, should I get a replacement?

If it does it while GT5 does a install I'd think about getting it exchanged, as for your trophys and saves, you should be able to back all your contents up with a usb drive aslong as its formatted to fat32.

By the way, how does that whirring sound bad? As far as I can think the disc is just spinning and then stopping.

it's the spinning up and down while the laser head is moving back and forth, its as if the drive is having to re-read the disc TOC (table of contents) due to excess jitter/error.

Alrighty then, I was wondering if the new "super slim" does that main noise too. Because I still can exchange my slim to an super slim with no extra fees.
