PS4 External Audio Question for Best Sound Quality

I plan to buy an external speaker for my ps4 (Edifier S530D), however since I am very new to this stuff, I don't know which setup can give me the best sound quality possible. Here are the 2 setups I can do,
1) Plugging optical cable straight from PS4 to the speaker
2) Plugging HDMI to my monitor (ASUS VX239H) and from my monitor 3.5mm to RCA to speaker
I wish to know which setup will likely give me the best sound quality, or if I won't notice any difference either way. Other suggestions are welcomed too if there is no need to buy another piece of equipment.
Your help is much appreciated.

The optical connection is most likely to give you better sound. This way you are using the DAC in the speakers which is better than the one in the monitor.
