PS4 vs New PC

I am torn between this. I have been given $400 by my mom as a gift ( im 14;income tax W00t ) and was planning to buy pc parts for my old hd 5450 "Sort of" gaming pc. I was excited to finally get decent fps and to be able to play skyrim,diablo,and all the other wonderfual games. But then i saw rumors saying PS4 is coming out this year and costs 400. I currently have a ps3 and LOVE Playstation exclusives. Im sort of a mix between Playstation and PC fanboy. The Ps4 is going to have some games coming out for it thats going to be amazing, but i hear PC gaming is better. But most developers just port over games to the pc months after the console release. 🙁 please tell me your opinion and help me make mine because i really dont know what to do!

you may or may not be able to upgrade it far enough to make a good gaming pc

sony have a press release coming on the 20th feb in new york where more info will be released about the

ps4 as far as i know
 
Right now rumour is rife regarding the PS4's spec and capability. We'd need to know your current system's spec too so we can suggest ways of making your system better for gaming.

The better platform is down to preference. PCs are better at raw performance, and being inherently upgradable means they'll last well. Games tend to be cheaper and come down in price quickly from first release, whereas consoles are a one-off charge but games can be pricier. I guess they age more gracefully and are less hassle to maintain and operate.

In a nutshell, IMHO PCs are more hands-on and offer a more rewarding experience (not to mention have other uses, like word processing) and consoles are better for casual gaming.
 



I'm just saying...it might be a good idea to wait ti'll they give the pricing on that PS4. This will make a huge difference in your decision, no?

That said, $400 will not get you either a PS4 or a Gaming PC. Sorry dude.
 
The price for PS4 is so far unknown. However, when the PS3 was released in the US back in 2007 it was sell for $499 for the 20GB version and $599 for the 60GB version. Therefore, $400 will not be enough for a PS4 even if Sony were to maintain the $499 price. Additionally, there is going to be a huge demand for the PS4 (and Xbox) for the 1st 3 or 4 months (maybe longer) so expect to pay a premium; that is stores will be selling for than the street price.

Since you are only 14, I recommend that you simply buy the PS4 when you can save up enough money for it. That means birthday money and Christmas money and perhaps any allowance your parents may give you for doing chores around the house.

Why the PS4 and not a PC? Any games designed for the PS4 will run on the PS4's hardware. Hardware doesn't really change much for consoles unless a new generation (like the PS5) is released, but that will not be for years. Basically that means if you buy a PS4 game 5 years from now it will still be able to run on the PS4. There is nothing you need to upgrade because you simply cannot upgrade any of the hardware.

The PC gaming industry is a bit different. There are new more powerful CPUs and graphic cards coming out almost every year. PC games pushes the performance envelope. Newer games will generally be more demanding that current games which means if you want good performance and good graphics, then eventually you will need to upgrade the hardware.

Back when the Radeon HD 5450 was new, it was considered a slow graphics card; not really meant for games. I'm sure initially it was okay for games which were not very demanding using low resolution and graphic settings when it was released back in late 2009. But that was 3 and half years ago... and the "PC industry" is still pumping out higher performance hardware.

Get a PS4. You don't really have to worry about the hardware becoming obsolete (which means "no longer useful") until the PS5 comes out. Apart from maybe an additional controller, all you need to really spend money on is for the games themselves.

If you were older and could work to earn money, my answer may be different. But as a 14 year kid you have very limited options... unless you can convince your parents to build a good gaming PC for you.
 
Jaguarskx gave you great advice,you're only 14,maybe you should buy ps4.Later when you start work/have more money you can go with pc gaming.Pc gaming is always level up on consoles,but as a 14year old kid its gonna be hard to spend your limited resources on upgrades every 1-2 year.Unless you really want to,but its gonna take a bit more the 400$ on upgrading to get nice gaming rig to get even started.
 
So who pays for your internet service? PS4 would be quite expensive, you'd need to download every game that required Steam or whatever, for activation.

Probably better to upgrade the PC, you always need a computer especially for homework and other projects. There is no employment opprtunities in the future for those with PS4 experience.
 
I would let the parents buy the laptop / PC if it really becomes necessary for school. They will get a tax deduction for doing so. Therefore, I would not really lean towards a laptop / PC especially since it will need to be upgraded once you decide the performance is no longer good enough. As stated in my prior post, games designed for the PS4 years from now will still be playable on the PS4 because the hardware does not change. On the PC end since new hardware comes out on a more or less "regular" schedule game requirements will increase throughout the years.

As for internet connections... the safe assumption is that all middle income family households should generally have internet connections that should exceed 50GB per month. Some ISP have "unlimited" bandwidth. If I do not have unlimited bandwidth, then mine is at least 75GB per month because I actually tried to test the "limits" of my bandwidth by watching a few streaming HD movies, but also downloaded 5 Blu-Ray encoded movies in a single month each of which were 13GB - 15GB in size. My cable bill was the typical average monthly amount and I was not throttled in anyway. It did increase my electricity bill though since I basically kept my PC up and running 24/7 during that month I tested.

Anyway, it is not necessary to download games from Steam when you can simply buy the physical disc. Or just limit buying and downloading 1 game per month from Steam.
 


Hahahahaha LOL'd at the employment opportunities part! :pt1cable: No bud, there's no "Steam" on consoles. You'll need to buy and download the games from the PSN Store (which has great deals), that's a problem if his internet service has traffic limit (Which I doubt, but who knows :B).

If I were him I would better save the money, wait till a promotion pops (wheter it is for PC parts or PS4) and only then I would spend da papeeeeeeerrr. :B

Lulzh. :B Hahaha oh man that's bullshit taken to new levels, look how biased that thing is! :B Some of the PS4 Cons and Pros are fake and Microsoft-wise, nobody even knows how the console will be named and that *** is already stating that is "is cheaper" and better. Looks like it was written by a 12YO XBOX fanboy. :na:

will if you see gameplay of the ps4 you can decide but its about what your friends are going to be on so you can play with them. if there on ps4 by a ps4.
