[SOLVED] Ps5 1440p native support

Solution
Really depends what you mean by 'native'.

Can the PS5 do it?
With HDMI2.1 there's the bandwidth for 4K/144Hz or 4K/240 (or even "5k"120) 240 with compression. So it's not a hardware level support concern.

However, games are still likely to be developed for the common 'tv' resolutions, 1080p then 4K, so the content likely won't be 'native' 1440p... it'll be up/downscaled accordingly.

Question for Barry: If I have a 1440/144Hz monitor with HDMI 2.0 though will PS5 support it the way that XBox does? Monitor manufacturers are claiming HDMI 2.0 will support this but I'm sure I read somewhere that it would usually only be supported by the display port option. Trying to decide to buy an "interim" monitor while waiting for HDMI 2.1 to be introduced/come down in price for something offering a decent refresh rate to enjoy some of the new games. If this takes a couple of years I don't want to be limited to 60 hz while waiting - only "need" a 25" or max 27" display so would this be better for gaming than 4k/60hz? Oh wait I see you said it would be tied to the game itself.....so even if the PS5 supports it it will be limited by the game
