I am going to buy a new PSU, but I dont quite know the right size for it.
My system is most likely going to look something like this at the end of next year:
-CPU: Some Intel CPU (I7/Skylake/2016-CPU)
-GPU: MSI GTX 970
-2x4 GB RAM (Most likely DDR4)
-2xHDD, 1xSSD
I definately plan on overclocking CPU and GPU to the max at some point.

The PSU should remain in my system for as long as possible, so I tried to figure out how much Power Im going to need.

- The CPU should not really go over 225W (an energy-hungry FX8350 uses around 200W when heavily overclocked).
- The MSI 970 with max power target already requires 225W, so future GPUs shouldnt go above
275W.

That alone is already 475W. So seeing that, with the rest of the system added, 550W is a bit tight, would a 600/650W PSU suit my needs better? Or am I exaggerating with the numbers?

550W is fine. There isn't any point getting 600W but 650/750 will make your system more "future proof" if you wanted to SLI your cards in the future. I'd recommend getting a good quality PSU in the tier 1/2, have a look here http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html

No kidding. I'm sure the OP figured that out himself. :sarcastic:
Ex 970 owner myself......

I usually take possible future expansion into account.

Power supply should be chosen according to it's 12V rail power, not total output. Most reputable brands put exactly that power on the sticker. For example a good 500W unit can supply 40A on it's 12V output(s), resulting in 480W on 12V rail alone.

650W recommended by posters before me sounds just about right for your system.
