Hello,
I'm building a computer for the first time, and everything has been going smoothly up until I started plugging things into the PSU (Corsair HX850i). The 24 PIN connector is self explanatory, but I'm having issues figuring out what plugs should go to the 8-pin on the mobo (Asus Z170 Pro Gaming) versus the 8 pin to the GPU (EVGA GTX 970). The PSU just has five plugs with a label in the middle that says "6+2 PCI-E & 4+4 CPU" (pictures here: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hxi-series-hx850i-high-performance-atx-power-supply-850-watt-80-plus-platinum-certified-psu). Everything I can find online says they should be clearly labeled, or that serious damage can occur. Can someone help me with what plugs should go into which plugs? The 8-pin cable labeled "CPU" I assume is the one to the MoBo, and the 8-pin cable labeled "PCI-E" is the one for the GPU. So I know to not get the cables mixed up, but does it matter which plugs on the PSU I plug the cables into? Both types of cables fit into all 5 of the 8-pin plugs.
Thanks for y'alls help!!
