I just got my GTX 1060 and after examining my cable situation, I realized i have a cable that goes from my PSU's (Corsair CX600M) 6+2 pci slot into my motherboard's 2x4 cpu power slot. Is this okay? i mean the machine has been running fine for years, but my PSU's last open port is a 2x4 cpu slot, which just screams to me that the 2x4 slots should go together.

Also, the GTX 1060 requires a 6 pin cable to the PSU, which currently i don't have any free slots for in the PSU.

Would it make sense to buy a 2x4 cable and a 6 pin cable? I would then plug the 2x4 cable into the psu and mobo. Then plug the 6 pin into the psu and gpu?

I realized the whole time (even though this is really old) I was misinterpreting this thread. He wasn't plugging a 6+2 PCIe cable into the motherboard's EPS12V connector, he was plugging the EPS12V connector into the PCIe connector on the PSU, which can work if they're electrically compatible.

Nope not trolling. Actually... I think it was pretty tough to plug the cable into the MOBO 8 pin, i remember thinking it took a bit more force to plug in, and also to unplug... Even so, how is it possible for the PC to run fine for years?

Picture of PSU connectors. The top left slot (4+4 CPU) is empty, the cable in question is plugged into the bottom left, labeled "6+2 PCI-e".

You MUST be trolling us! 😀
You can't get 8 pin EPS in to 8 pin PCI connector.

actually some PSU makers allow that although the should not.

lost me completely here.
the cx600 has a hardwired non-modular atx 12v cable

Why would you not have any sockets left on the psu for a gpu exactly ??

makes no sense at all,Im using a cx modular here with 4 hard drives,1 optical, molex connected fans & a gtx 970 with a 6+8 pin.

You shouldnt be having any issues at all.

Oh, that makes a lot more sense.
and the CX600M is modular so yeah this could very well be it.
