I have a brand new Palit 1080GTX Jetstream and a brand new EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2, 80+ TITANIUM 1600W PSU.
The 1080 GTX requires two power connectors: 1 is a 6 pin power connector and the other is an 8 pin power connector.
The PSU has 6 pin connectors with the additional 2 pins to make it an 8 pin power connector.
The problem is, the two extra pins have sloped sides and the 1080 GTX remaining two holes consist of 1 sloped hole and 1 square hole (excuse my ignorance with naming conventions) the 2 pins fit (round peg in a square hole) but I guess this is wrong.

The connectors have the clip which faces the way the cards are supposed to be inserted, also, there is no room because of the fins to plug it in any other way. My 980 connects the opposite way to the 1080, which threw me at first.

Is this how the GPU slots look? -

Is it possible for me to upload a photo of this? The cable and connectors look similar but the orientation on the card is different (upside down) and the pin shapes are different both have sloped sides on the connector but the GTX has one sloped hole and one square, the connector goes on but as I say, it's a round peg in a square hole.

I always find it easiest just to upload a photo from my camera roll (iPhone) on imgur from mobile site then email myself the link and get it on my desktop.

I put the 8 pin connector end into the modular PSU and the 6-2 pin connector end into the 8 pin slot on the graphics card.
The pins on the 2 pin connector are different from the holes on the 1080.
Can I plug a sloped pin into a square hole?
I have installed many graphics cards and power supplies over the past twenty years but this seems kind of strange to me.

I did a search for my EVGA cable box. I have found a cable with 6 pin and 6-2 pin both at one end and the 8 pin for the PSU at the other end; previous setup using two cables was due to my old 980 that I removed. Again, my only problem is, the one square hole on the GTX being different from the sloped pin on the psu cable, it bothers me, I don't want to damage anything.
Sorry for being a pain.

@rgd1101 Sorry, yes it fits, but I cannot get my head around why there is a single sloped peg being fitted into a square hole; I have never come across this before. I had a piece of hardware damaged the other day and I am now being cautious.
