Psu 8pin

hi is there any good way to go from 4/8 pin with an old psu , 85w cpu . 600w psu

here is 1 way , is this quite safe 4 pin & 1 molex on an indavidual spur from the psu

that cable is fine. i have one like that, and it doesnt even have the molex part, and it works fine.

I am always nervous to plug in any connector converter to my PC parts as I do not know whether they are correctly wired or not. If you share the same paranoia, you might want to do away with the converter and just use the 4PIN connector from your PSU as it is.

The 8 PIN motherboard can be powered from the 4PIN cable. As it is, the 2nd set of 4PINs will be left blank.
The 8PIN power port are needed in case you wish to overclock and the motherboard derives the extra demand from this extra PINs. So if you are no overclocker, the it is fine to use just the 4PIN connector.

Based on my G'byte GA-EP45-UD3P manual, page 23, "Use of a power supply providing a 2x4 12v power connector is recommended by the CPU manufacturer when using an Intel Extreme Edition CPU (130W)."

That would seen to indicate that a 4 pin (2x2) connector would be adequate for a 65 or 90 watt CPU.

i suggest you use the adapter for 8pin. it was intended to be used like that so why not? it may prevent problems in the long run

Okay. I will try it with my MSI 790FX-GD70 which has 8PIN and I will plug just the 4PIN cable to see...
Bide with me as I am quite busy these past few days and have not been able to tinker with my PC for quite a while.

Shove tried it with an Intel board, couldn't get it to work with or without the adapter.
I have an Intel board that came with the 4-8 pin adapter , won't boot without it.
