Hi guys, this is my first ever pc build so i'm very new to this. This is what im planning on buying:
gigabyte Radeon Hd 7970 ghz edition
Intel i5 3570k
asrock z77 extreme 4, for motherboard

i've done a fair amount of research and these seem to best match my price range as well as performance and from what i've read go well together, other suggestions are gladly appreciated :).

My main question is what case and psu do i buy? Dont want to spend to much and do want to over clock a little also preferably modular. As for cases i really like the nzxt phantom 410 but i'm worried that the fact its a mid tower, heat will be an issue, what do you guys think? i really want a good looking case.

Thanks in advance, danny

Your config is good.
Well, selection of case depends on your personal taste. Take the one which can accommodate 7970, as it is a long card.
Go for Corsair. I would suggest this one:-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020

Need a budget you are looking at although on the PSU I recommend you spend the money on a nice unit, without even knowing your budget I will mention this option I highly recommend this PSU as of now its on sale and it's a killer deal - Seasonic built GOLD certified with a 7 year warranty. There are other options that I could list as well if you want but this one currently is the best in my opinion.

As far as a case recommendation that's more of a personal preference thing but that 410 is a nice one and will be able to fit that GPU you plan on using. As far as cooling you should be good to go just make sure you practice good cable management and if you ever run into air flow problems the case accommodates more fans if needed.

GPU you plan on using 11.22inches long

i just got a gigabyte Radeon Hd 7970 ghz edition

new revisions have been voltage locked

i cant overclock the gpu more than 25mhz without it crashing

though the memory overclocks fine to 1600mhz

would have been nice if gigabyte had announced they were blocking increasing voltage

still a great card but the earlier versions could hit 1200mhz--1300mhz with voltage increase

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

Radeon HD 7970 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit.

If you are going to overclock GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina.Source - http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_radeon_hd_7970_review,8.html I'd recommend depending on budget http://pcpartpicker.com/mr/ncixus/xfx-power-supply-p1750bnlg9
