PSU Coil Whine

Hi all,

I just built my first pc (Saturday 12th Dec) with the following specs

Mb : MSI Gaming 5
CPU: I5 4460
GPU: MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4g
Mem: Hyper Fury X 8gb
PSU: EVGA 550w G2

I am getting coil whine from the PSU even when I have shut the computer down, I have unplugged everything from the PSU and the switched the power on at the back each time and the coil whine only comes back when I plug the motherboard cables into the PSU.

Does anyone know how to stop the coil whine or should I get a replacement PSU?

That's a coil on the motherboard then. Maybe you want to put a little bit of silicon or glue between the coils?

Do you mean put the silicon on the PSU coils? Oddly enough the coil whine went away completely when the computer went to sleep, could it be caused by something plugged into the motherboard like a fan (the exhaust fan starts to spin then stops, i can force it to spin using software though).
