Hey

I have loud coil whine coming from PSU which is brand new Corsair CX 550M.
When I start to play CS:GO, its very audible but when I drop my fps from 300 to 100, the sound decreases almost completely. My previous PSU was Corsair CX 450 and I tried to hotglue the components but it didn't help as the sound came from the center component which was covered with plastic.

I have tried all settings high to low but with high fps, I cant get rid of the sound.

Is there anything I can do for this?

Here are my specs...
Mobo: gigabyte ga-h77-d3h
Memory: adata 8gb + kingston 8gb 1333mhz
PSU: corsair cx 550m
GPU: nvidia geforce 1060 gaming x 6gb
SSD: samsung 760 evo + HDD seagate barracuda 2tb

Yeah. You can't use a 1080 with a double forward PSU and expect the main transformer not to make noise. CX-M is best for cheaper builds. You need a better PSU with newer switching technology (LLC resonant).

For Corsair, that's going to be CX (non-M), Vengeance (the 80 PLUS Silver one) and anything 80 PLUS Gold and up.

Thanks for the replies

If I order a CX 550, will that be okay? Or are there better options for my machine?
Or what about this one which Dark Lord of Tech suggested (Corsair TXM 550): https://www.amazon.de/Corsair-TX550...rsair+txm+550&qid=1567835979&s=gateway&sr=8-3

My specs:

Mobo: Gigabyte ga-h77-d3h
Memory: Adata 8gb + kingston 8gb 1333mhz
PSU: Corsair cx 550m
GPU: MSI geforce 1080 gaming x 8gb
SSD: Samsung 760 evo + HDD seagate barracuda 2tb

TX-M is same as CX in that:

It's uses the same LLC resonant and DC to DC platform.

TX-M is better than CX in that:

It's Gold efficiency
All Japanese brand caps
Semi-modular
Rated to run full load up to 50°C instead of just 40°C

I ordered that TX 550 and the coil whine is still there... : (

Maybe if I order a more powerful PSU like 750 watts, that could solve the problem or am I wrong?

Sorry my quick response, I just logged into a game and heard some coil whine coming out... So I think the coil whine coming from the PSU is gone entirely and my GPU is making a slight buzz which I can live with

Thanks all for help!
