PSU Confusion. Can't find an answer!?

My PSU only has a 2x2 12v ATX cable, as does my current MOBO. My new MOBO has a 2x2 12v AND a 2x4 12v, bit the manual doesn't say to use either, or, or both. I'm not going to be overclocking.

My specs will be Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X, Intel Core i7-8700, GTX 1050ti and 32GB DDR4 RAM.

Can I use just the 2x2 slot?

You need a PSU with the proper connections. A PSU without a 12v 2x4 shouldn't be powering new components. Has to be an outdated power supply.

Thanks very much for your reply. So just to clarify, the new mobo has a 4 pin and 8 pin. Do I use both or just the 8pin?

With a higher end board like that , I recommend using both.

It says it comes with 1x EPS/ATX12V 8 pin (4+4).

That only has one 12v CONNECTION:

1 x EPS 12V Connector
2 x Floppy Connector
7 x 4-Pin Peripheral Connector
4 x PCI-E Connector
8 x SATA Connector

I also have this motherboard and my PSU only has the 8-pin. I know you suggested using both the 8 and 4 but is it absolutely necessary? If so, can I buy a cable to hook to the back of my PSU (it has open spots to plug in 4x4 CPU cables). I have looked around for them but all i can ever find are just extensions for 8 pin (male to female instead of female to female)
