Psu crossfire question

I have a 750w psu, will it run dual xfx rx 580 8gb gts black core edition cards in crossfire? I am running a Gigabyte Gaming 3 z97x motherboard, 4790k Cpu, not overclocked, 32gb Ram Ddr3 Corsair H80i liquid cooler, 1ssd, 3 mechanical hd, 1 Cdrw drive, 5 case fans. Also does anyone know if it might have trouble with bottlenecking the gpus?

What model power supply is it? Since GPU's pull power from the 12v rail it would depend what that rail is rated at delivering.
If it can deliver most of that 750w through it you should be fine 😉
Most of your parts should hold up, although with my setup with two cards and a h80i I did end up thermal throttling the CPU. Just something to look out for.

It's an LSP Ulta Atx 750w. So what would you recommend for cooling? Was the thermal throttling that you had excessive? I know that people don't recommend the dual gpu but I'm set on doing it because I like the look and most of the game titles I play it will really do well with it if I can get everything configured correctly.

I'm seeing really scary threads about this power supply. People are saying it's trash so Idk.

From what I could find on the power supply, by it's specs you should be alright since it has a single 12v rail that can deliver 696w from pictures I could find of the sticker on the side of it :/
Reviews I could find of it make it seem okay. Some of them complaining about noise when testing. You'll notice if you have issues anyways when you run the cards and have instability. Like games or your PC crashing, shouldn't cause serious damage to your parts. 😉

As for cooling I'd also just run it and see if you start throttling. With my cards it is a bit different since both cards are running about 90 deg.C and chew even more power but depends on your case and airflow.

What is your reasoning for running dual 580's anyway? They only have 1.5GB's of vram don't they? So for most newer games you'll be limited by that. It would be more worthwhile to upgrade to a single card in this case.

If so, I would note that it's not designed to run two graphics cards with those power requirements. It appears that the XFX Radeon RX580 requires a single PCIE 8-pin power connector. Obviously, the second card would require the same and your power supply only has the one (I don't recommend using the 6-pin power connector).

You'd want a power supply that has at least 2 PCIE 8-pin power connectors to run that graphic card setup (regardless of the power/amp output).

No, the rx 580 comes with either 4gb or 8gb vram. I have the 8gb, Xfx rx 580 8gb gts black core edition. Are you sure that you had the right gpu in mind? Actually, benchmarking that has been done puts a dual rx 580 8gb crossfire setup just a few fps behind a 1080ti that's not overclocked. Of course the downside of this is the power consumption and heat of a dual setup and not all games are optimized for crossfire. But the dual setup is right up there with the 1080ti in many titles that I play. I ordered an 850w psu just to be safe.

Thanks for your response, Yes that is the model. I now have the two cards installed, one with a 6+2 pcie cable and the other with a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter that came with the gpu. It's running but I have had it shut down when I tried to overclock the cards. However, I have an 850w Psu ordered and arriving tomorrow so that will have the right connectors and should have sufficient wattage

I bought a Thermaltake 850w, that is working good, no instability now. I ran into the same problem as you though, thermal throttling. I pulled a case fan out of an older tower that I have and mounted it on the side panel right in front of the cards. That worked great, the cards are running at 70-75c under heavy load. Ordered another fan for exhaust also although my other fans seem to be doing a decent job. For a dual setup I think that is doing pretty well other than the noise. In Crysis 3 at 4k rez using the very high settings I'm getting an average of 48-58 fps. Do you know if Radeon Wattman interferes with Msi Afterburner? I'm having issues with it recognizing my setup. I'm trying to do some benchmarking with it.

What kind of interference are you getting? I've had a few issues with Wattman overriding some of my OC settings, but most of the time it lets MSI AB do it's thing. Do you mean benchmarking isnt working?

For benchmarking I usually use dedicated benches such as 3dmark, Uniengine and the such. In games if MSI afterburner isnt working for you try Frap's benchmarking. Although an old program 😛
