so I’m not a very savvy builder but can someone tell me please the dimensions ... height width and depth of the power supply room I would have inside the case looking to build a budget computer for my brother I will be buying my own psu just need some dimensions

Solution
The Dell Optiplex 790 mt uses a standard ATX power supply. Majority of the PSUs are ATX, so anything will basically fit that case.

Make sure the PSU isn't too long , there won't be much room for the cables in that MT.

Corsair CXM 550W:

5.91" x 3.39" x 5.51" No longer than these dimensions or no room.

Longer PSU's will not fit.

Dell MT PSUs are actually a little bigger than aftermarket PSUs. They're about 1/2" thicker due to having the fan on the end instead of on the flat side. Until you get up around the 750W or bigger length isn't an issue. I have had to install newer/shorter DVD drives to make some roon there with bigger PSUs.
Unless you're installing above a GTX1050Ti the Dell PSU will be just fine. Optiplexes have a 95W CPU limit and can get by with a seemingly small PSU due to this. The quality is actually excellent.
