Hello,

So I'm looking to save a little money on my energy bill. So if it's significant, I want to upgrade my PSU such that I could save some money. I currently have an EVGA SuperNOVA G2, thinking of going up to a P2. Is it really worth it to upgrade or should I just save my money?

Solution
gold is 87-90 efficiency. Plat is 90-92. No it won't be significant. Gold will do the job fine. Platinum is for bragging rights. G2 is one of the best on the planet. Quit worrying about it. :)
I'm not too sure, but i don't think there will be much of a difference between gold and platinum, and gold is already a great efficiency.
if you want to save some money on power, you could try a gpu or cpu that has a lower tdp.
What are your pc specs?

there are few issue with power supply and how there tested. most of them are tested at 50 percent load and 80 percent load and then have to hit a set point to rate gold or higher. the problem is with most power supply people wont load it at those set points. so in real life you may have a unit that outputting from 80-90 percent on a covered scale.
also with output to the load it depends on what in the case. you can have a 1500w power supply but it old going to output 100w if all you have is an ssd and the mb. if your trying to save energy good for you. first step is call your local power and gas company for free energy audit. if your in the usa look up on dsr.gov web page for energy grants and rebates by state. start with the roof see if you can add insuation there to keep hoime warm and cool. also if it an older home look at window replacements. for inside home pick up free led light bulbs. hot water look at the hot water on demand and solar hot water systems. if your heating system is old look at geo thremal heat pumps or energy grants to replace it with a gas unit.
